At Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School students receive a well-rounded education. Not only are students challenged with common core subjects such as math, English/language arts, science, social studies, and religion, but children grades Pre-K3 (3-year-olds) to 8th grade benefit from the strong presence of art, music, world languages, and technology that enriches a Mother of Providence student in ways beyond the norm. Many studies have shown the importance of art in education, learning languages from a young age, the benefits of practicing cursive, and the impact of a resourceful school library. At Mother of Providence the students experience it all! Walking our halls, one will see 3-year-olds singing Spanish songs, 1st graders working with robots, and 3rd graders creating google pages on their very own Chromebooks. Our 2nd graders are introduced to cursive which impacts their handwriting style through 8th grade. Outside of the traditional classroom setting, students are exposed to music from a very young age. Wandering the halls at Mother of Providence, visitors hear violin students as young as 4 years old picking away at tiny strings while 8-year-old recorder students toot to the tune of “Hot Cross Buns”. On Tuesdays in the fall, the school echoes Christmas Carols as the advanced band practices in the gym. On spring mornings, students from ages three to fourteen recite their prayers in Spanish - with a Delco accent - while teachers stand in awe of just how much these young minds are capable of.
It has been published numerous times about how important each of these disciplines is to a well-rounded education - the type which enhances creativity and produces smarter, healthier, and more empathetic human beings. This continues to be the goal of schools even at a time when resources across the country seem thin and enrichment programs, such as those described above, are being cut due to budgetary constraints. Those at Mother of Providence are grateful for the means to expose students to these subject areas. Through these mediums, students can learn the cultures of various nations in the present day through the recitation of foreign language. Furthermore, they can time travel to eras of the past through the study of classical music, and they are able to comprehend the limitless future through an understanding of technological advances. Mother of Providence students experience a world beyond their own time and place creating an education, not only of a variety of class subjects, but of numerous perspectives on the world.
