Welcome to First Grade
Summer Reading is Reading for Fun!
Reading Tips:
• If the text of the book is too difficult for your child to read independently, a great
idea is to read to your child repeat. This will build confidence enough for the
child to begin to read it with you or to join in on a repetitive part. After your child
has learned or maybe even memorized the text, he/she could enjoy reading it to
you and many others (praise this as reading). What fun this can be!
• Choose a specific time of day for you and your child, cuddle up in a special place
and enjoy the book together. You as a reader are an excellent model as your child
then sees reading as a part of everyday life. It will teach them to love reading and
understand its importance.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numberoff (c1995)
We will be doing some activities with this book when we return in Septmber so be
sure your child has read this book prior to school starting. Please complete the Book Report Paper on If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This should be brought to school on the first day of school. See Link on left below Summer Reading List for this Book Report Form

Please review your basic Math facts with sums up to 12 and differences from 12. This will give your child confidence as they start the new year in first grade!
