Summer Reading Assignment for 5th Grade
Hello Incoming 5th Graders!
This summer you are going to read:
After you have finished reading One Crazy Summer, you will choose one project to complete from the Summer Reading Choice Board(attached). Make sure you pick a project that you will enjoy doing. Your project must include the Title, Author, and Genre(TAG), plus information on the characters, setting, and plot. Make sure to follow all the directions and do your best work. You will be presenting your project to the class.
I hope you enjoy the book!

Summer Reading Choice Board
Character Journal: Write a one page journal entry in the voice of a chosen character. Make sure this journal expresses the character’s thoughts, feelings and ideas. |
Book Jacket: Create a book jacket for the book. Make sure it looks different from the actual book jacket. Include the title, setting,characters and a short summary on the back. |
Newspaper Article: Write an exciting newspaper article about one major event from the book. Make sure to use an exciting headline and include who, what, where, when details in your article. |
Movie Poster: What would your book look like if it were a movie? Create a movie poster to represent that. Include critics’ reviews, short plot summary, how many stars you would rate the movie, would you recommend seeing the movie, and title/author of the book it’s based on. |
Power-point: Create a detailed power-point presentation that will tell the class a little bit about your book! Include slides on... 1.The main character 2.The setting 3. The conflict (problem/solution) 4. Favorite part 5. Would you recommend this book? Why or Why not? |
Diorama: Create a miniature model of the of the book by using materials around you. Your Diorama could be the setting of the book or a visual of your favorite chapter. Be prepared to explain |
Frame Story: Show the sequence of your story by creating a series of comic book frames. Show eight major plot points with a brief description of each. |
Book Illustrations If you were hired to be an illustrator for this book, what would you draw? Complete six drawings of main events in the story in sequential Order. Include a brief description of each illustration. |
Poetry Corner: Create a poem or a song that summarizes the story. Don’t forget important elements like title, setting, problem and solution! Be prepared to present |
