Three Local Companies Team Up with BLOCS to Deliver $45,500 in Funding to Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School
King of Prussia, PA (January 26, 2015) – After a record-breaking year of contributions in 2014, BLOCS has kick-started 2015 with a combined $45,500 grant from three local organizations – Republic Bank, Optimum Physical Therapy and DWD Mechanical Contractors.
“We’re proud to provide a pipeline between regional schools and the businesses who are heavily invested – both physically and emotionally – in their communities,” BLOCS Executive Director Bill O’Brien said. “The lifeblood of our organization is the youth who are granted opportunities through a high quality education that they may not have been able to afford,” he added.
The funds will support BLOCS scholarships and other education-based needs at Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School in Wallingford, PA. The participating businesses utilized the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs to redirect outgoing Pennsylvania business taxes in support one of the region’s top educational institutions.
In commemoration of the National Catholic Education Association’s Catholic Schools Week 2015 (from January 25 – 31), a check presentation will be held on Thursday, January 29. It will be held at the school with representatives from each organization in attendance.
“We are excited to be able to offer BLOCS scholarship funds to our families. We receive more requests each year for financial assistance and these funds will go a long way in helping those families who sacrifice to send their children to Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School,” Principal Therese Waters said. “We thank all those businesses who have partnered with us through BLOCS to provide a quality Catholic education to every parent who seeks it for their children.”
Republic Bank (Ardmore, PA), Optimum Physical Therapy (Swarthmore, PA), and DWD Mechanical Contractors (Morton, PA) have all made a concerted effort to support their local communities. By providing tuition assistance to Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School, they are helping students reach their educational goals.
For the 2014-2015 school year, BLOCS set a fundraising record with $10.2 million in contributions, serving approximately 5,500 area students. Businesses in Pennsylvania have the ability to receive up to a 90 percent tax credit by donating to BLOCS through the EITC and the OSTC programs.
